Aromatherapy - Edinburgh

Aromatic plants have been used in perfumes, medicines, incense and cosmetics for thousands of years. The Egyptians used oils such as frankincense and myrrh for embalming; indeed, traces of the former were found in Tutankhamun's tomb. It is also claimed that Cleopatra’s daily ritual included an aromatic bath followed by a massage using oils of rose, cedarwood, lilies, myrrh, melissa, and cinnamon.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils - the life force of the plant - in holistic treatments seeking to help the client achieve physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The aromatherapy consultation form asks the client about their lifestyle and health; from this a tailor-made blend is created using a vegetable carrier oil(s) and essential oil(s). I usually use organic ingredients. Where this is not possible I make sure they are high-quality ingredients i.e. cold-pressed, unrefined. The treatment uses this blend with soft tissue massage techniques. Yet, the aromatherapy treatment doesn’t need to be massage. Bath blends, room sprays, inhalations and pillow drops are other methods of use.
